Position Summary

Under general supervision, load, repair and properly store all perforating type guns, testing tools and tier equipment at the location.

The Gun Loader has the principal responsibility for loading the Guns, keeping up to date the explosive inventory control list, ordering explosives and ensuring that the Perforation Equipment like GUN adapters, consumables and related equipment is maintained to the highest standards and according to the latest specifications and RITE. He/she is aware of the potential risks associated with such maintenance and works in a safe, orderly and efficient manner.

Reporting Line

The will report directly to the District Ops Manager or District Manager

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Loads explosive powder or chemicals into gun perforators and carriers used in shooting or burning holes through tubing, casings, and earth formations: Assembles perforators, using special hand-tools
  • Cleans, gauges, and lubricates gun ports distributed along barrel 
  • Inserts specified powder charge in chamber of sidewall sample-taking cylinder and assembles cylinders, using special wrenches 
  • Stores loaded guns, explosives, and related materials in storeroom according to established safety procedures
  • Maintain inventory of all explosives and radioactive materials
  • Must be capable of loading all types of guns 
  • Regulating the purchasing, transportation and use of explosives 
  • All QES employees have stop work authority.

Qualifications and Skills

Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years minimum O&G field experence
  • Previous Wireline experience required

Licenses, Certifications, Credentials

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Employee Possessor issued by the ATF (Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms).
  • A satisfactory driving record per company policies and background with no felonies are also required for this job.

Skill Sets/Competency

  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and handling explosives
  • Good mechanical skills with experience in the use of hand tools, welding and cutting equipment, and tractor/front loader/back hoe, trucks, and overhead cranes
  • Ability to the use of multimeter, megohmmeters, hi-pot testers and other basic instruments

Work Hours/Overtime

  • Work hours are determined by job specifics. Can be up to 12 hours a day and typically Monday to Friday with some weekend work.
  • There may also be a requirement to visit and work at other company locations.
